Cross stitch for beginners
Sometimes it’s the simple things in life that make you feel the best about yourself. Instead of chasing rainbows and pursuing the impossible, you should start from within. Cross stitching is a great way to wake up your inner artist, clear your mind, and relax after a hard day at work.
Beginners at cross stitching can easily learn this craft by simply starting from the basics. Cross stitch flower designs are stunning, yet so simple to create. You don’t have to be a cross stitching expert or have any previous embroidery experience to work on cross stitch floral designs. A love of flowers will be sufficient.
Flowers have a unique soothing power; various research studies show that people are drawn to them and that observing roses for as little as four minutes can have beneficial effects on our well-being. Cross stitching floral designs by hand is a perfect way to feed your mind and soul. The combination of cross stitching and natural elements will provide the ultimate relaxation and self-care.
How do you cross stitch a flower?
Get cross stitch materials
To cross stitch flower designs, you need to have the necessary materials. In general, almost every cross stitch kit that you order will include these materials inside. If you’re a beginner, it’s particularly important to have the necessary tools to get the cross stitch flower done. Otherwise, you might get lost or make a mistake in your work. Here’s what you will require for a basic cross stitch flower: a medium-size needle, Aida fabric (includes woven threads on it), embroidery floss, and an embroidery hoop. At Craft Club, we care about making your cross stitching as easy and enjoyable as possible. That’s we pack each kit with utmost care and attention. Each kit includes:
- Easy pattern with instructions
- Embroidery hoop
- 14ct Aida fabric
- Full packs of thread for each colour
- 2x embroidery needles + needle threader
- Ribbon to hang your finished design
Choose your cross stitch flower design
The easiest part (and let’s face it, the most interesting one) of doing a cross stitch flower design is finding your inspiration. You can go about it in two ways; either you find a pattern on your own in your surroundings or you choose a pre-made cross stitch flower pattern. Both ways work, but if you ask us, it might be best to start with an easy pattern containing detailed instructions.

Start working on your design
Finally, it’s time to get started on your art project! Now you have everything you need to design a beautiful, eye-catching cross stitch flower piece.
Use your cross stitch flower pattern as a guide. It will show you which colours to use, which way to stitch and how to create the final design. Each kit at Craft Club will come with the grid of the pattern, detailed instructions, and the exact floss colours you will need for that project.
Start by threading your embroidery need with either 2 or 3 strands of floss. Reference the pattern at all times to figure out where you should start stitching and ensure you get the final result right. For instance, if the pattern begins at the upper left corner of the fabric, you do the same. Then, put your needle through the fabric, leave a little tail at the back and hold it with your fingers as you continue stitching diagonally. Bring the needle back up through the opposite hole to finish your first full cross stitch (X). Keep stitching and following your pattern. If you make any mistake or you happen to miscount a grid or two, you can always make it up later on in the process.
